northern adventure

Thursday we headed north to Massachusetts. We, being: my mama, my sista and my baby girl. This trip was planned last minute. We originally contemplated driving, which would have taken 9 hours! And while I have made this drive so many times with my own family growing up, I couldn't really imagine doing it with a 12 month old in the backseat. Especially Sage. She is just so active these days.
I was envisioning Sage crying and crying- wanting out of her car seat,  and then us older women getting into fights due to the frustration of having an unhappy baby in the car. I was imagining this statement coming out of my mouth a lot to my mom..." I told you so! Babies can't handle being in the car this long! Why did you think we could do this?!"
And then I envisioned us finally rolling up into my grandmothers drive way only to fall out of the car with cuts and bruises- maybe even one of us women would have been sporting a black eye, I don't know. All I know is it would have been a very challenging voyage.

It became clear pretty quick my mom was picturing this same situation happening. She mentioned flying, and that was it. We booked our tickets:)

And boy did this little one year old love her first airport experience. Once we got to our gate, I  securely strapped her into her new little velcro sneakers- and that was it- baby girl was off! she wanted to explore and say hi to all the other travelers. It really was unbelievable to me.
I've never seen her walk so confidently before.

And once we made it to our destination- we met up family, celebrated my Grandmother's 81st birthday, caught a glimpse of the Atlantic during fall, and just did our best to take in all we could of that beautiful coastal town before we had to venture home.
