These beautiful flowers have been in my home now for a crazy amount of time. I bought them almost three weeks ago to give to Sage's cousin Riley for her fourth birthday. She got one flower that had already bloomed, and another flower that was just about to open up and spread its petals.
I had hopes that she would take notice of this flower blooming on her own time.
Although, I'm not quite sure what a four year old take notices of. So, perhaps there really was no appreciation for it on her end.
Anyway, I kept the rest of the bouquet for my own family to enjoy. As of now, two flowers have withered over and the petals have become brown around the edges.
Luckily, there are two members to this flower family still hanging in there!
And I love them so much :)
It's easy to tell which flower is older, as the color is fading and those sweet petals are beginning to wilt.

The new flower, the youngest of the bunch, just bloomed today!
Last night I noticed the petals starting to move outwards, and by morning....Taa Daaaaa....it bloomed!!
It was rejuvenating to see its colors show. We needed this refreshing element in our home... the older flowers just symbolized too much of last week, which really wasn't a good one. We received sad news on both the family and work fronts. There was an unexpected death in Kyle's family and then some disheartening (again, very unexpected and confusing) news regarding salary at work, which may very well force Kyle to look for another position.
But this week is a new week! Not only does this pretty flower represent this, but I'm feeling brighter and more hopeful...and I think Kyle is too. So, thank you pretty pink flower for being here and showing us that newness and freshness we have been so badly craving.

I would also like to mention that our sweet baby tried her first food this weekend. It was mashed up avocado! Mixed with a little breast milk to make it soupy.
She seemed to like it a lot. She would spit some out at times, but this has got to be normal for all babies eating for the first time. After a couple more days of avocado, I'm going to see how she takes to banana. I'm thinking she will love the sweetness.
Kyle had to give it a try! |
I was actually caught off guard with how much I enjoyed giving her those baby spoon fulls of food. I truly enjoyed every second of it. It was funny and wonderful to watch her face as she took her first bites. Her expression was priceless! It definitely was clear her little taste buds were taken back (rightfully so!) by this foreign avocado mushy mixture.
yummy! |
She did so well, though! Despite the spitting out and wanting to put her hand in the bowl of mush, she (and we) managed to get most of it into her tummy!
In these days of steady growth, Sage never fails to surprise me with the new things she is learning. Whether its that playful giggle she does when Kyle and I say "hey, hey, hey, hey" over and over again...or how she reaches out to touch Simone's fur...or simply how she eats a bowl of mush. I just can't believe my eyes!
Oh...these unexpected moments of beauty:) They really have been hitting me from every angle these past couple days. First my babies avocado messy face and then that pretty flower that bloomed and just. like. that. made our home a happier one.
