What a defining month September was for my boyfriend and I.
I could tell my favorite season was approaching! The beautiful Appalachian rolling hills, here in this part of Maryland, were starting to resemble more of a colorful sponge painting of reds, yellows, and oranges. Smoke was beginning to float out of chimneys and people in my community were beginning to wear their jackets. Inside our own home, the warm, festive smells of cinnamon and vanilla candles were beginning to fill the rooms. Even our local restaurants started to change their menus to match the new feel in the air. The time had come to indulge in the wonderful tastes of pumpkin coffee and spiced butternut squash soups, fall beers, and apple pies! Fall was on her way!
Not only were we trying to take this all in (Well, he was, due to pressure from me), my body was telling me it was time to have our baby! She decided to make her entrance into the world a week before her due date. This was fine by me because I was ready to see her precious little face! I labored through the night and felt every pain as our sweet baby girl made her way out. Sage is her name! And she is absolutely stunning to me. I will never forget the first time I saw her on my chest. She let out this healthy cry and looked at me with those bright eyes of hers. It almost seemed like she was thinking to herself…”Soo, this is who I’ve been hearing all this time”. She was quick to calm down and snuggle up to me before she had to be cleaned off and weighed. It was such a beautiful thing to feel this instant love and connection with this little being.
On our way home from the hospital, my attention went back to the changing season Mother Nature was bringing to this region of the country. I quickly realized the warmth and refreshing change this season has always brought to my life was going to be much more special this year. I now get to start a life with my new little family and experience the joys of being a mommy :)
